CJ
CJ is a no-nonsense, street smart rapper representing the hustle of Tokyo, Japan.
Picking up rapping while being immersed in a motorbike gang, CJ has managed to create his own unique style of rap; flashy and in your face, while at the same time maintaining his thoughtful Japanese swagger.
This attitude is what attracts so many of his fans, who’ve chanted his songs as he tore up clubs such as Shibuya Vuenos, Roppongi Ibex, Shibuya Unity, Shinjuku Hoop, Shibuya Asia, among hundreds of other venues around Tokyo and Yokohama. CJ’s gritty and rough voice stand out over his peers as he raps over hard beats with a signature flow. He doesn’t care much for confusing rhymes and metaphors, but more on talking about ‘real, everyday life and it’s complexities’
After joining the bilingual rap group ‘Sky-Fu’ back in 2004, the group have released 3 acclaimed mix-tapes independently, and one HMV released compilation album. The group garnered a strong fan base from the international community in Tokyo by rapping in a mix of English, Japanese and Korean.
Production, clothing line, artist scouting and event organising are also part of CJ ’s street repertoire, because as he says, ‘ Everyday you gotta hustle harder’
After signing to 1 or 8 Faction, CJ is working on a collab mix-tape, solo album and featuring heavily on long time rap partner Tai’s upcoming album.
